Default Any of you fellers seen "Inglorious Basterds?"

If you aren't a Tarantino fan, well, you just ain't got yer head screwed on straight. Without divulging too much, "Basterds" was a slipperydisappointment, though if such a movie needed to be made, I reckon that Tarantino was the man for the job. Too much yak yak. Not enough chop chop or clickclick, bang bang. The conclusion attempts a compensation for this, however brief. The filthy Nazis are portrayed - mostly - as limp-wristed lillies witch isfunny at times and occasionally works, but is cinematically inaccurate. We know what they did and we want to hate them on screen, not go, "Oh, no, notTHIS guy again (cue eye-roll)." I never suspected myself of saying this, but Brad Pitt is great in every one of his scenes, though the rest of his creware two-dimensional characters, some of whom we don't really see at all. At almost three hours, it's an Expedition of a film. See a matinee or crossyour legs and wait for Netflix.

    Too much yak yak
Now that's what I love about a Tarantino flick Ryan. For me, the dialogue he creates between two characters are what makes his movies. Theopening chapter in Bastards was stellar imho.

I loved the flick, but that's just me. Some of the folks I saw the film with, all die hard Tarantiono fans, felt much like you Rayn, less than thrilled.

I also thought the cameo voice parts were a nice touch.

I have not looked forward to seeing a movie in quite a while like I have this one. Hopefully will see it this week.

It's refreshing to hear good things about this film, because they are many; maybe I just spent too long being paid to review films! Uh-oh...consider for amoment that there might be spoilers afoot. My main beef, I suppose, is the movie's direction, which felt aimless to me - and meandering - as the central 90minutes of the film moved along. The big tavern scene was spectacular; edgy and funny (the SS guy has a boot glass!), but so very much too long for me. Thatsudden and explosive gunfight that ended the scene was brilliant and, while we knew something as such was going to happen, it's ferocity - for me - was notpredicted. Brilliant. The Basterds had hatched a plan to blow up the theatre, though its owner had already developed one similar. Did those two coincidingthings matter? I suppose not, and it only made for more spectacular fireworks in the (nice 'n bloody) conclusion. Eli Roth's "punch-out gun"is going on my Christmas list. The opening section is excellent and does indeed run along without complaint.
Or perhaps it is this: I just wanted more Jews killing Nazis.

It's one flick that I definitely want to see but that will have to be in my living room. Tarantino always has blown me away with his style & spinsthroughout his films that leave you wanting more. Loved the Kill Bill's & Pulp will always be what gave birth to Tarantino in film. He is a master atwhat he does and & there are many in Hollywood trying their best to duplicate his style........best of luck to them as there's only one. image

Few do conversation like Tarantino. That's what I love about his movies. The contrast between the brilliant/philosophical dialogue (quiet moments) and theaction moments are what really make his movies click. Sometimes there are too many quiet moments back to back to back as if he's trying to really build forthe action moment. But it' still good.

    Royale with cheese.

Wifey and me saw it a few days ago and always, I mean always enjoy the Q T "style" to each and every film he takes on. However, I must say Q isgetting soft in his old age. Yeah! There's not near the blood and gore in this one as in his past flicks. The Tavern sequence was indeed superbly done!Worth the ticket for that alone!
