...but they build a helluva lighthouse! Check out this vid of French lighthouses being pounded by the North Atlantic... I wouldn't want to be manning oneof 'em in those conditions... wow....

" Looking for rose BEACH BOMB in blister"
cool video. To be fair, the French aren't nearly as bad now that Chirac is gone.
Lighthouses are built on the shore usually to light-up the shoreline correct?
Well some of those lighthouses look to be built on a rock with nothing surrounding them. If that's the case wouldn't have been easier & smarter toblow the rock they built it on instead?

I've been in that part of France, and the lighthouses are there to warn of long chains of exposed or semi-submerged rock outcroppings. They just built themon the highest ones. They'd have to do a lot of blasting to get rid of them all...

but first - just as a genuinely friendly FYI, lighthouses are in place to accomplish mainly one thing;
to alert ships at sea as to where the harbor / shallow water / land is.
They're usually at or near the mouth of a harbor, but can be there just to alert ships
that the land is nearby and shallow waters are between them and the lighthouse.
This was of course before GPS could pinpoint your location within 3 feet anywhere on the planet!
As for the other thing...
I'm not really an A-hole, I just play one on RLOL.
I felt bad afterwards that I dug my heels in and got nasty last time I made a post in your direction.
It takes two though, and for my part I publicly apologize.
I do it this way for RLOL to see because this is where everyone saw my less-than-cordial last post to you.
What can I say? I was in "confrontation mode". You and just about every other human being here
has been in that mode at some point too, it just makes one an ass.
Hopefully, it passes.
So for when I was an ass, I'm sorry. Just been a lot going on here lately and I was worn thin.
Not an excuse, just offered as a truthful explanation.
Your original impression of me so long ago was kinder, I hope to be worthy of it again.
Sincerely, Greg
A couple of thoughts regarding the light houses:
Which "generation" are the ones featured? Are they the originals, or did it take a couple of tries to get them built sturdy enough?
And secondly, it's one thing to be safely tucked inside, but what trials and tribulations did they go through to actually construct them?
Jeff
Greg,You & I are very vocal & we rarely agree & that's OK, but on this I see we can agree. I too am sorry for taking the bait & lashingback at you.
I 'll try not to Quote you & set you off again
Pete

Interesting possibility...BTW The video is fantastic.I still hope to disparage the French however. I hope they don't mind.---mike

Thanks Pete, for responding and for the positive response.
*virtual handshake*
The quoting me thing was just me perceiving something that was either
harmless prodding or completely not there at all; in my own mind only.
I'm not paranoid, it's just that everyone's out to get me.But truly, I think I had just enough cumulative abuse from the world in general that week.
Ever been there?
Sorry the chip on my shoulder had to fall off in your direction.
Hey these emoticons are addictive! LOL, ok I'm done,
thanks again for the friendly reply Pete, Greg
