    Default PayPal Grift Option

I was wondering how others feel about this.
I'm seeing a lot of sellers asking people to use the PayPal gift option for payment.
It kind of bothers me because it is a lie and gives me a feeling dishonesty.
I am like many who feel that Ebay and Paypl has many flaws with some of their policies
and could curb their fees some, but they are a business that provide a convenient service
    and no service is free.
I'm also worried that if this option is abused, Paypal will end it and add extra cost to
those who are actually sending gifts, such as money to help with college expenses or
emergency funds to help with a medical or natural disasters.

    Thanks
    Jim

I wouldn't use it as a buyer as then you are not covered under any of the protection policies. I understand your bigger point and agree with it but withPaypal being a deceitful business, they end up getting what they give.

I would not use the gift tab any place but here. Because it would be to easy for someone to rip you off. And ebay makes enough money off listing fees and finalvalue fees. And now they wont even let people accept other forms of payment. how can ya feel bad for ebay?

So far only those I would normally trust have asked me to do it.
It just seems to be a growing trend and some sellers may try to make it
    a requirement.

It's just something that was nice being offered by Paypal and I'msure
it wasn't meant for business reasons.

I am in agreement with you that it is very wrong that Ebay is only allowing
Paypal payments. I think this is unfair to buyers who wish to pay with money
orders or have no choice to. I myself at one time could only pay with M.O.'s.

I am sure, I am in agreement with everybody else about the very poor conduct
and polices of Ebay. I am not attempting to defend or stand up for them here
    at all.

Thanks for your input guys.... image

I may be wrong but I was under the impression you can still pay with money orders or checks as long as you take Paypal also...am I wrong?

    I don't believe your wrong.

If a buyer contacts me and says he has a M.O. on
the way and there's no complaints, I don't think Ebay
    can do anything about it.

But I have tried to state on my sellers page that I
would take M.O.s and Ebay would not let me submit
it until I removed that statement. They are corrupt,
but unfortunately they seem to be the best came in town.
It's nice here on RLOL, but Ebay reaches a lot more
people who may have an interest in my items and I
see a lot more of my wants being offered there.

    DON

Seeing it used more and more, I was thinking that
this might escalate to more then just deals between
friends and known collectors who would like to have
    a good reputation.

First , do NOT feel sorry for Ebay or paypal. Paypal especially will screw an American seller every single time while protecting anon-American in a sale. Non-American buyers are promised 100% protection no matter what. They are NEVER told that if their item is lost or stolen, the poorsap American seller is going to lose the entire amount because he/she shipped to an UNCONFIRMED address. So , please do NOT feel sorry for PAYPAL and ebay. Do not.

You can NOT ask for other forms of payment. Something will block you...but you can override that by writing something like:

Paypal ok or will will alwaysacceptmoneyorders ... or you can misspell money orders.. xmoneyxorders..... xchecksRwelcomed..... So far, I haven'tbeen stopped when I slip a few of these in. I don't do it in all auctions for fear that Ebay will shut down the auctions.

Remember, Ebay did this because they own paypal and they are greedy filthy pigs. Sure , they provide a service but if I sell my olds 442 for 400.oo , Idon' t think that I should pay a 12.35 dollar fee because it's convenient for the buyer to use paypal. Yes, that would be the paypal fee on a 400.ooitem assuming the buyer is in the USA. If they are outside the uSa, then the fee is 35 cents PLUS 4%.

Anyway, the gift option is probably being abused. I would be very careful if I sold a lot of items here and suddenly I am getting "gifts from many people. Gifts with prices that aren't rounded are a red flag.... 100 .oo hot wheel car plus 4.85 shipping.. Yeah, a gift for 104.85? How many of these can oneseller accept w/o Ebay realizing that something is going on. You guys/gals need to be careful.

On ebay, you can NOT request a money order or check but if the buyer wants to send it, no problem. A seller canNEVER request it. You can't ask for cash payments either . Anyway, if a customer requests it, I see no problem with it.

If you wanted to use a check or money order and the seller writes paypal only, write to them and ask. Tell them that you don't have a bank acct. or thatyour paypal acct. was hacked into and maybe they will let you bid. Some of the newer sellers are really paranoid about accepting a check or money order. Ihave a feeling that there is something in the wording when you join that scares them into accepting a check or money order.
