love the old 4-runners with the removable top! they should have kept that body style in production a bit longer in my opinion...nice you got a manual tranny with yours, wheelin' just ain't the same with an automatic.

here's my 1991 cherokee. just under 3k miles on fresh 4.0 liter I6 engine (stuck thermostat and faulty temp guage killed the last motor). 5 speed manual. just got suspension rebuilt about 1k miles ago. still needs a couple more odds and ends, but its pretty close to where i want it.

The first-gen 'runners were very cool with the fiberglas top and its twenty-something bolts and wiggly "roll bar." Getting in the back seat of that thing (with the top on) nearly required a running start! They're money in the bank today, and as much as I like my '90, I often wish that I still had my '86.

yup, you can't go wrong with the 4.0 motor. 190 hp and buckets of torque. i looked around for the first gen 4-runners but all the ones in my area are rustbuckets. nice thing about the jeep is there are millions of them out there and parts are dirt cheap. since i've bought it i've also come to appreciate the simplistic engineering used when they were designed. cherokees are about the easiest vehicle to work on that i've ever come across.

a good friend of mine had an '86 runner. damn thing got rained in countless times because he would get lazy about putting the top back on since it was such a pain in the ass to do lol. still one of the best looking compact suv's ever though. i really like the 2nd gen runners too. way better looking than the nissan pathfinders from the same era

if you think that AK is scary, you should see what else i got!
