Politoys VW Squareback

This is a VW Squareback made by a company called Politoys. As you can see from the pictures it was in need of a restoration.

It was missing its doors and headlights. After taking it apart I made some doors and headlights for it and modified the chasis to accept wheels from a Dub City VW Bug.

I am not familiar with this Politoys E model, though I have tons of 1/43 diecast. Didn't know it existed.

Nice work. Good looking replacement doors. Styrene or brass?

You have really pushed the envelope with this car.....who would have thought that such a basic car as the squareback VW could be made to be such a pimpin' ride.......sweet.

The doors (which no longer open) were made by cutting and placing a small piece of metal in the opening and then using body filler (Bondo) to fill in and shape the doors to match the body lines of the rest of the car. Once I was happy with the shape of the doors I cut in the door lines.

Here's some pictures of my 1:1 Squareback. It's a 73 and all the work was done by me in my home garage.

Scott, Please be sure to post pictures when you finish converting that Notch into a Square. I can't wait to see the final product. Love that yellow driver too.
