Here is an update on the bears that ate my ex wife's chickens:

LOOMIS, CA - A mother bear and three cubs who've lost their fear of humans will be trapped and killed, the California Department of Fish and Game confirmed.
The black bear sow and three yearlings have killed nearly two dozen chickens in separate raids in the Loomis basin and are believed to be the same bears that broke into a house in Auburn last month.
DFG Warden Patrick Foy confirmed a depredation permit was issued this week and culvert traps have been set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Foy said the trapper would kill the bears if they are caught.
Multiple Loomis residents described encounters with the bears, who they said appeared unconcerned when confronted.
One man, Patrick Balfour, shot video of the bears sitting on his driveway eating a chicken they had just taken from his hen house.
Gail White said she caught one of the cubs trying to open a cage on her back deck to get a pet cockatoo.
"I think he thought it was another chicken," White said. She said the mother bear simply stared at her when she started screaming.
Foy said that once bears lose their fear of people, the encounters can only get worse, and possibly dangerous.
"These bears have already broken into a home," he pointed out.
Some residents have asked why the bears cannot simply be relocated to a less urban area.
Foy said DFG policy prohibits bear relocations because with a habitat range of 100 square miles, the bears will almost certainly come into contact with humans wherever they are placed.

even though they ate my exwife's chickens I am sad that the mother bear and her three cubs are going to be killed.

I agree, it is sad that they will be killed. What the article says about the bears becoming more dangerous is true though, and it is especially true now that the bears have broken into a home. If the bears continue to break into houses and someone is in them who knows what could happen.

On a lighter note, we have lots of deer in my area. We also have a lot of cats, and one cat in particular used to like to stalk and chase the deer. It was hilarious to watch the cat on the prowl, and the deer, being good prey animals would always respond by running away -- chased by an ambitious house cat.

I miss that cat, hope it didn't get trampled.
