I got an email today from my bank saying that I need to update my information because someone has tried multiple times to access my account and as a security feature they are taking steps to protect me. They said my account will be frozen until I conform. I did nothing and logged in to my e- banking and everything was normal. The email looked legit with my bank name and all. Scary!! They would be disappointed if they did manage to get in to my current account anyway.

For starters, your financial institution will NEVER contact you via e-mail regarding anything about your account. They will either snail mail you or phone you. It says this right on my banks site. If you get ANYthing from your "bank" regarding your account via e-mail, dismiss it as spam.

And even if you get a call, ask the person on the other end to tell YOU details about your account that only you and your bank knows. Better yet,...tell the bank caller that you will call THEM back,....then get the number out of the phone book. Telephone scams are just as rampant...

I had some Asian guy phone here at least 3 times in the last year telling me that,...get this,....Microsoft Windows has been "down in my area"...and he needs to get access to my computer to 'help' me fix the problem.... lol... "down in my area"

If they phone enough people,....somebody's bound to bite...
