Gomer was the one who had miserable living conditions he lived in the back of Wallys filling station, all that he got was a cot and a one burner stove. At least Barney had a room at Mrs. Mindelbrights boarding house but at first he wasn't even allowed to cook there, plus he could only use a 40 watt bulb. Michael

Never happened Dave, When Barney napped in the back room, Andy hid his shoes one time, and swapped hats with him another episode. Another time Andy tucked Barneys blanket in under the feet of the bed so that Barney was trapped, then he slammed the court house door, and yelled for Barney.

My favorite prank was when Barney was napping outside of the drug store, and Andy put some of Aunt Bee's lipstick on Barneys fingers and ticked his nose, causing Barney to smear lipstick all over his face.

Like I said "I've watched way too much TV".... Michael

I seem to remember Barney living in the back of the Sheriff's office when he and Ms. Mindelbright got into a pi$$ing contest over something (Maybe cooking in his room?) Then, he and Andy saved her from getting swindled by a con-man and Barney moved back. Of course, I may be mixing together a couple episodes.

TAGS has always been a favorite of mine - when I first started working from home years ago, it happened to be on when I'd stop for lunch. I actually had every episode recorded on VHS - long since replaced by DVD's (I've got the entire series of Dick Van Dyke too, but that's a different thread).

    Yeah, Leon was Clint Howard.
Ron Howard's dad, Rance, also played several roles on TAGS. Remember when Barney's cousin Virgil came to town? Rance was the bus driver that left without him. Or how about when Barney ticketed the Governor's limo? Rance was the chauffeur. He was also one of the treasury agents when the gold shipment was coming through Mayberry and there were several times when he was in the crowd at different events.

I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite - picking a least favorite is easier (that'd be any of the episodes where Warren - Barney's replacement deputy - played a significant role).

I'm tempted to take Michael up on his trivia challenge - not because I know all the answers (though I could hold my own) but because my mom thought that I needed to have the Andy Griffith Show trivia game a few years back...

Mike, you got the first name of Thelma Lou's husband correct....Gerald Whitfield. I'm impressed! It didn't say much for old Barn that between the end of season five (when Don Knotts left TAGS) and the middle of season six ('The Return of Barney Fife') Thelma Lou left town, started a new life, fell in love and found a husband! She and Gerald had been married six weeks when they returned for the Mayberry Union High reunion.

Doug, if you're talking about TAGS Mayberry Mania Game (black and white box) it's a must have for fans. An old friend of mine helped bring it to market a decade or so ago. We used to watch TAGS back in college between classes and dinner from 5-6. Our favorite episode at that time was 'Bargain Day'. Count how many times an exasperated Andy tells Aunt Bee to "Call the man!".

I'd like to see "TAGS Week on Jeopardy". What fun it'd be to see competition on this subject -- not just a category, but the whole game every day for a week. I wouldn't win but it'd be FUN!

I have a trivia question for anybody who can answer it. In one episode of TAGS, Jerry Van Dyke guest starred as a one man band in a carnival playing the backup music for a hochie cochie girl. Towards the end of the episode, Aunt Bee got her purse snatched by two guys, Jerry found out who took it and had a fight with them. One of the two thieves later went on to co-star, in what may be the most popular movie ever made. Who was he?

I'll reveal the answer tomorrow if nobody gets it by then.....Michael
