Getting ready to excercise my 2nd Amendment rights .... suggestions?

Half century old, it's about time I own a decent sidearm. Went to a gun show over the weekend, and saw tons of options.

I want something that the ammo is comparatively innexpensive for, but can still be considered a decent defensive weapon. I'll be going after a carry permit, and will likely head to the range a good bit (thus, the need for cheap ammo).

I'm leaning very much towards a 9mm, and the Rugers have caught my eye. Anybody out there own one that can tell me if it's a decent weapon? Also open to other suggestions.

I have a Keltec P-11 9mm. It is a great gun that is small and easy to carry. The only downside is it has no safety, just a longer trigger pull. I've had it for years and never had any issues with it.

I've got a new Ruger SR9. I love the feel of the gun. Fits my hand great. They also make it in a compact size, SR9C, in black, stainless and O.D. colors. I prefer the stainless, less upkeep. I also own a pre69 Browning 9mm Hi-Power. I have the 15 round mags for it as it was made in 1969. Newer guns in California can only hold 10 rounds. You can buy larger mags for the SR9 though. I also find that reloading the 9mm are fairly easy and not too expensive. Which ever gun you buy make sure you buy good ammo! I use Winchester Ranger Law Enforcement ammo for carry rounds and Winchester white box for plinking! Buy it by the case, it's cheaper! Good luck with your choice. Keith

I have owned a few but my Beretta px4 storms are my favorites. I have 9mm and 40. I bought the 40 a few years ago when all the ammo was in short supply. The only Ammo I could find around here was 40s. No 9mm,38,45 or 380 anywhere. After I shot the 40 I was so impressed that I traded my S&W 9mm in on the px4 in 9mm. Although 99% of the time I carry my NAA Pug 22 mag. You are welcome to come down and shoot anything I own just let me know.

Seems like everyone and the horse they rode in on are into semi autos, I prefer revolvers, since I am not a spray and pray kind of guy. I actually enjoy Taurus firearms, when they started off they were copies of smiths, I like them and have no trouble with them at all, I own 8 revolvers, had one semi but sold it, along time ago and one rifle a skis with 30 round clip, and pistol clip, bayonet still attached. Need to get another hunting rifle. Got one picked out I think, a Ruger No. 1 tropical in .375 win mag or .375 h&h. Taurus firearms are good and you get a 1 year membership to the NRA

and a PX4 .40 for backup and I highly suggest investing in a good holster.

I don't want to start a fight but i was talking to my wife last night about this thread and i am so happy i live in a country where there is no need to carry a gun for defense , hell were i live i don't even lock my doors at night

I got steyr m40 its a good gun spent over a thousand rounds not the first jam but the spring in a clip broke.and a holster makes all the differance

My Sidearm of choice, and one you could never go wrong with, the dependable M-1911-A Colt .45 ACP Automatic..........





The one pictured above, with it's original holster, is a 1915 model, that my Great Grand Father on my Mom's side, used in World War I, at the Battle of Belleau Wood, as a Sergeant in the U.S.M.C., the first major battle the United States fought in during WWI.........

Even after 96 years, this Sidearm still packs a wallop, and is always kept within reach for the defense of my home, and those in it, and i will never hesitate to use it if need be.........

So far, that day has never come, and hopefully never will..........
