$16.4 Million Ferrari Sets New Record for the Most Expensive Car

Auction house Goodings & Co. sold a 1957 Ferrari Testa Rosa for $16.4 million on Saturday. This is the highest price ever paid for a car at an auction house.

That was a beautiful car! My wife and I were there at Monterey for the R & M Auction. That place had some really nice cars that were going to be auctioned off Saturday evening. We walked around both the R&M Auction and the Russo and Steele auctions which were across the street from one another.

Here's a couple of pictures of the nice classic cars.

Just checked the R&M website and see that this MB below sold for $9.7 Million! Second only to the Ferrari Testarosa. Very interesting history to this car.



Here's a more "modern" classic that was on the streets of Carmel by the Sea. This Rolls Royce Silver Shadow had carbon fibre hood, window trim & grille trim and Swarvorski (sp?) crystal hubs.

That Ferrari was amazing. Someone just got a real piece for their collection.

Dave, you're making me wish I live in CA. All of those cars look great, except for the Rolls. I think that thing is way too overdone (even the hood ornament appears to be carbon fiber and the silver trim on the wheels look like something from Tron). Are you going to go to the Pebble Beach Concours and the historics at Laguna Seca too?

Didn't go to the Concours on Sunday. That will be my venture next year. The featured car for the 2012 Historic Car Races at Mazda Leguna Seca Raceway will be the COBRA! I'm sure we'll see many original AC Cobras driving through town next August!

Dave, I was up there on Sunday for the Concours with my friend and we saw that exact same Rolls driving around. It was driving right behind a Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport.

Last year Pat and I were up there Friday-Sunday and got to go to the RM and Russo/Steele auctions, the Historics, and the Concours but Pat couldn't make it this year. If the Cobra is really the featured car at the Historics next year though, there is no way he will be missing that as it is one of his favorite cars of all time. Hopefully we will see you up there!

And Donald, did you hear about the 1936 Bugatti SC Atlantic that changed hands privately last year for somewhere in the range of $30-$40 million? It wasn't at a public auction so I know it doesn't apply to the Ferrari's situation but this reminded me of it. I was lucky enough to see it last year at Pebble Beach. Definitely one of the most unique and beautiful cars ever built. -Andrew

Now, for something completely American, and one i'd rather have, Edsel B. Ford's 1934 Lincoln Model 40 Special Speester, completely restored, and unveiled at The Lodge in Pebble Beach last weekend, one of only one......

Wow what a car show!! Thanks for posting them all. I admire all cars from here or there!! and love to see all the pics!! When ever I am driving and I see a Lambo, or a ferrari going down the road and we see them from time to time here in southern california, I hollar at my wife LOOK AT ThAT CAR!!! and the wife says what car??? Never mind it's already gone!!
